What do you see when you see this baby? ❤️ When I was a new parent 5 years ago, I saw a grumpy baby who didn't really get breastfeeding was meant to be easy. 🧡 What I see now, as a #skilled #feeding supporter is evidence of the feeding struggles we where already having & the ones yet to come. 💛 For this is my baby, who started the next level of my training and taught me many lessons. 💚 The biggest thing I want you to know, is here is where I wish skilled support was accessed. It wasn't through a lack of trying, at one point I did a clinic a day! But the mix of people I saw, wasn't right until around 8 traumatic weeks in. 🧡 The things I see now, that break my heart a little, are a baby asleep with balled up fists. For mant babies, their hand relax with a full tummy, especially when asleep. 💙 I see a worried frown on a sleeping baby, another sign of discontent and evidence of the feeding issues we had. 💜 For the longest time (around a year) it was one day at a time, despite all of this, we meet my final feeding goal of self weaning at 4.5 years. 💜 So if you are worried about your baby, follow your #insticts ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜 Ps. 2 weeks till the next #ibclc #dropin Sunday 23rd 1-2pm @ Wycombe Library

I used cereal and blueberries to see the difference between expectations and reality of many breastfeeding moms. . . 📷 inspo from @latch.ie . . We’re you told your baby should breastfeed every 2-3 hours? I was. Did you know that only came from figuring out how often feeding was needed for a baby to feed 8-12 times in a 24 hour period... . . So yes we APPROXIMATELY would like babies to feed AT LEAST 8-12 times, but the way it all plays out in a 24 hour period is very different for each baby. . . Reality: babies feed like the blueberries. Lots of feedings. Some small. Some big. Some close together. Some far apart. . . Babies do not feed like clockwork where every cereal (ahem.. feed) is spaced equally apart and the same size. You can relax if your otherwise healthy baby goes longer than 3 hours between a feed. You don’t need to think “you can’t still be hungry” and delay a feed if they are showing signs they want to feed earlier than 2 hours. . . Listen to your baby. Trust your instincts. Let go of the cookie cutter “ideal” and develop your own relationship that works for you and your baby. . . Do you feed on demand? It's no secrete, I love to merge my creativity with my work.⠀ ❤️⠀ I've combined my training from @mindfulbreastfeedingcoach with some of my own ideas, to make some feeding affirmation cards. ⠀ 🧡⠀ Why? Because adding feeding challenges, to new parenthood, is a ripe zone for negative mental chatter.⠀ 💛⠀ These affirmations, are one way to switch this up.
